iBeacon
In 2013, Apple developed a protocol called iBeacon which is similar to a Bluetooth feature. Various hardwares called beacons have been made which are compatible with this feature. They enable smart devices to interact with one another in close proximity.
iBeacon can primarily be used as an in-store messaging system. This can help smart devices locate and contextualize potential customers. A lot of different retail stores have used this to enhance their commerce by approaching an audience through mobile marketing. This can also ensure payments done via mobile systems during the point of sale.
Another useful application of iBeacon is to allow Hotels to send messages at any specific point of interest. This is in many ways similar to Global Positioning System (GPS) but has much more accurate results.
We, at Two Eyes, believe that this technology plays an important role in the world of mobile marketing today. This is simply because of its precision and low power consumption.
