3D Printing

3D Printing started in the 1980s and has been pretty popular since then. It is also known as “Additive Manufacturing”. 3D Printing uses special computer operated systems which work with layers of different materials. These materials are mostly in semi-liquid state. The layers are controlled and a three-dimensional object is synthesized based on the commands given. A model is first designed on a computer aided design (CAD) software. This design is then checked for errors. After that the printing process takes place. Once a three-dimensional object is formed, the finishing touches are applied to give clarity and smoothness.

There are a number of applications of 3D printing. They are used in industries, for research, construction, mass customization, prototyping, domestic consumer use, etc.
