DECT

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, better known by its acronym DECT, is a standardized cordless telephone system. Having been originated in Europe, it is the universally accepted standard there. Soon enough, its more common usage began in homes and small offices where a single-cell cordless phone powered by an analog phone was used. The gateways used were multi-cell DECT and DECT repeaters. These also became available in private branch exchange systems among both medium and large businesses. People also use DECT as baby monitors and industrial sensors. Other applications may include home security and automation.

A usual interoperability profile called GAP is used by DECT which allows a simple telephone capability. This is implemented by most manufacturers. GAP works to enhance the most basic functions like making and receiving calls.
